Wednesday: On Sickness

Spent the day sick as heck. Fever, nausea, hacking cough, etc.

Kill me now.

Tuesday: School stuff

We had a field trip in class today. We students walked down King Street to the second largest Granite building in the world – Marischal College. I picked up some new people from the Institute and saw Ian there. He left us to find our way to the College and the hidden entrance. This fact really bothered me as none of us knew where we were going and he couldn’t be bothered to take us. The meeting was okay, but I had a lot of fun with the girls, Chris and Michael.

As we were on the way to Marischal, I met with Katie who handed me some homespun wool she made to show to Carleigh. Carleigh is a knitter and I was hoping to get her to buy some of Katie’s wool as she’s selling it to raise money for ChildReach.

Later on, I went back to the Uni for a lecture given by Chris; it was really well done and more than a little entertaining. I have plans on having Chris showing me how he added certain things to PowerPoint.

After the lecture, a good number of Elphinstone Institute students went to Bobbin for a drink. We were there from 10 to 12:30.

Also, in rather personally distressing news, I seem to be coming down with a cold. Bollocks.

Monday: A New Obsession

Watched Qi more and didn’t do much of anything until after supper; then I went and hung out with Katie for a couple hours. It was cool because I got to see her spin her own wool, that she will eventually knit something with.

Sunday: Non-Memorable Days

Sunday I did nothing at all; I stayed in and watched Q.I. (I may have developed a sense of hero worship for Alan Davies, Jo Bright, and Stephen Fry)

Saturday: More Exploration

I slept over at Jenny and Tadhg’s from Friday night to Saturday morning. Well, sleeping is a bit of a misnomer; I didn’t sleep at all that night, it was just too bloody cold to sleep. I ended up bundled up beneath three blankets, a pair of socks, three tops, and a pair of gloves.

Either way, I survived the night and read the comic books that Jenny had amassed in his living room. Once Jenny woke up, she took me to the Farmers market that is held once a month on Belmont. It was nice, but not amazing. I’d been hoping to meet the kiltmaker, but he wasn’t there this month.

While at the market, we bumped into Carleigh and when Jenny went to work, I ended up torturing her for a few hours (we wandered from the Farmers market to a craft fair and then back to the market). It was a pretty good day; we laughed a lot and were more or less the most relaxed around each other as we’ve been thus far. Another good thing about the day is I was able to buy some more Christmas gifts.

Friday: Of Clubbing for the First Time in Scotland

Met up with Natalie today, we went shopping I bought a pair of jeans – I had a heck of a time finding non-button jeans. Either way, I found a pair and what made me happy is I now fit comfortably into a 32 waist again!

We also did some window shopping, and just generally hung out for a while. We also went back to OMG and I got another milkshake – Lucky Tatties this time (tastes of cinnamon).

There was a Shit load of snow all day. It snowed most of the day, and it was the wet, sticky variety that doesn’t linger, which is pretty good too.

I decided somewhat last minute to dress up after all for the CeltSoc event. I ended up borrowing pieces for my costume from my friends – I planned to go as a lumberjack – why not live up to the North American stereotype? Unfortunately, I didn’t pull off the burly look; I looked like the stereotypical gay lumberjack. Anyways, I got most of my costume from lesbians (does that make it a double stereotype?)

I went to the Polish Storytelling event in the evening – for the first half anyways, there was an overlap with the CeltSoc event, so I backed out at the half time break. I then went to the Bobbin in my (pathetic) costume. After about an hour there we caught the Campus bus to another bar (Campus is a bar in Aberdeen, and they have a bus to get from Uni to the bar). What I really liked about the first bar we stopped at – Alternative – as it played some awesome songs/music.

Unfortunately, there was also something I didn’t like about the place was because my pants (the new ones I bought in the morning) ripped. It was an incredible rip; from the second reinforcing band below the waist, down along the back pocket to below my buttocks and onto my leg. It was embarrassing as heck, and breezy to boot.

We went on from Alternative to Triple Kirks, Slains Castle, and then Korova. They were alright, but not too awesome. I did like Slains Castle; it’s like a mix between a mad science lab and a Hollywood dungeon.  What I really enjoyed that evening was the Fried Mars Bar that I ate at Marco’s. It sounds really dodgy, I know, but it tastes AWESOME. I totally intend to introduce it to any visitors I have while I live here.
